Network Services are those services, which provide quality information, services and other resources to the business for success. It involves the planning, examining, developing, designing, checking, combination and administration of various network systems.
There are two different types of network services: Connectionless and Connection-Oriented. The connectionless service is one in which the endnode delivers the data to the address. Each and every part of data routes separately. The service transmits the information without making a logical connection. There is no need of a meeting connection between dispatcher and recipient.
Local area network (LAN) works as connectionless network service in which the computer attached to LAN can transfer frames and make use of network. There is no need to establish a connection with the destination system.
A connection-oriented network service generates consistent links among end users. One endnode is linked with another and the network conveys it's appeal to the destination in advance. The acceptance or rejection of connection depends upon destination. It involves three phases: establishment of connection, relocation of data and execution of connection. This method is also known as reliable network service.
Connection-oriented services can easily handle real-time traffic as compared to connectionless service. For e.g. ATM and Frame Relay. The connection-oriented service transmits all packets with no loss. Such network also reserves some amount of bandwidth for the duration of the call and if the network is overloaded, the request for upcoming call is rejected.
