The most popular of Verizon's plans is the America's Choice 300 plan which gives you unlimited nights and weekends, and unlimited mobile to mobile minutes, plus 450 anytime minutes for just under $40.00 a month. This plan is ideal for the casual user who doesn't do a lot of traveling or doesn't make lots of long distance phone calls. Another favorite among Verizon customers is the America's Choice 700, which allow you 1,000 peak minutes and 5,000 off peak minutes, for just under $100.00 a month. Verizon's America's Choice Family Share plan at $150.00 a month allows 700 shared peak minutes and unlimited off peak minutes with each additional line costing $20.00 per month.
A Consumer Reports survey showed that Verizon Wireless ranked best overall in consumer satisfaction, over all of its competitors.
This survey examined the frequency of dropped calls, service area coverage, static on cell phone calls and busy circuits. Since the Consumer Reports survey was conducted in major U.S. cities, an independent test was conducted on the back roads of the Carolinas and Verizon Wireless proved to be consistently better and more reliable than competitors like Cingular, Nextel, AT&T, Sprint and Alltel. Verizon rightfully boasts about its overall customer satisfaction and fewer problems with service availability, overloaded circuits, and static on the lines.
Verizon has a fairly low turnover rate at just over 20%. Yet the major complaint against the carrier is poor customer service and confusing billing. The same independent study found the customer service staff at Verizon very helpful but not as knowledgeable about plans as they could be and with little information about coverage in Canada.
Another thing in Verzon's favor is the quality of the phones supplied. Some of them double as walkie talkies, which is great when two people are working together on a project or when you are at a public event with the kids and want to stay in touch. Verizon also offers camera and speaker phones. They can also tie regular local and long distance calls in with their wireless plans. Web access, IM's, text messaging and a wide variety of ring tones is also available from Verizon.
Unlike some of the competitors, Verizon offers single year contracts. This is good for a first time cell phone user, not to be locked into a long term contract with a company you may not be happy with. Before signing any cell phone contract, make sure you understand the terms, coverage area, and over plan minutes.
