Low cost, single radio access point provides customers with greater flexibility when deploying to low capacity, remote environments
London, UK, February 16, 2010 - Aerohive Networks, creators of the award-winning cooperative control wireless LAN (WLAN) architecture, announced today the release of the HiveAP 110, a cost-effective single radio dual-band 802.11n access point, which provides a more cost effective 802.11n solution for environments that do not require dual radio support, such as small retail and hospitality environments, telecommuters and micro branch locations.
“Being extremely satisfied with our existing Aerohive 802.11n network, we immediately looked to Aerohive to wireless-enable our retail network. A controller-less deployment continues to make sense, from a reliability and economic point of view, but the performance and multi-radio requirements of our distribution centre are not necessary,” said Brian Eley, technology analyst at Scotmid, the largest independent co-operative in Scotland. “The addition of the single radio HiveAP 110 will provide greater flexibility in our retail locations and its lower price point will help us meet our budget requirements.”
The new HiveAP 110 utilises the full feature set of Aerohive’s cooperative control technology - the simplest, most reliable, most flexible, most scalable, and most cost-effective Wi-Fi solution in the industry. It delivers a data rate of 300Mbps with a single 802.11n MIMO (2x2) radio and provides the flexibility to be configured to operate in either band - 2.4Ghz or 5GHz - providing the opportunity to use the less congested 5GHz band if the clients are all 5GHz capable.
New HiveOS and HiveManager releases
Aerohive is also introducing the 3.4r2 release of HiveOS and HiveManager which offers several new features and benefits including:
PCI Controls Report: This report provides an easy-to-generate, detailed listing of the relevant data pertaining to PCI requirements. It enables an organisation to gauge their compliance and correct issues before going through an audit.
Walled Garden: This feature enables an external and out-of-band captive Web portal to be used to authenticate users and authorise access to the network. It is a more sophisticated captive Web portal experience than what is available with in-line solutions and it also enables a single central Web portal server to authenticate users at remote locations without requiring a separate server at each location.
Virtual Access Console: This feature provides the ability to get console access via a specialised and temporary SSID, which becomes essential in the event of a networking issue that could render access points stranded.
