11 September 2012 - ANT, an established provider of software and services for the delivery of digital TV, won the award for best native app for a portable device at the ConnectedWorld.TV Awards last night. ANT picked up the award at IBC for ANT Galio Move, an app that enables viewers to stream live and recorded TV content to tablets and smartphones anywhere in the home. Viewers can watch the same programme as the main TV device, stream a separate channel or even watch previously recorded programmes.
The app delivers unrivalled control over the set-top box (STB) or TV, as ANT Galio Move connects directly to the TV device over a Wi-Fi connection. Viewers can quickly navigate through the EPG to access recorded and live TV content, all of which can be done without interrupting the main TV screen.
ANT is already working on new features for the app, the latest version of ANT Galio Move launched at this year’s IBC show, allowing viewers to both watch TV and interact with social media on the same screen. As well as this, the app can analyse programme metadata, providing links to additional associated online content such as an article on Wikipedia, a soundtrack on iTunes or a movie trailer on YouTube.
“We are delighted to have been awarded the best native app for a portable device. ANT Galio Move is the result of years of hard work both in STB and application development resulting in an app that really enhances the viewing experience. We are already working on a number of new features and are excited about where we can take this next,” said Pauline Ingram, acting CEO at ANT.
“Congratulations to ANT on winning the award for best native app for a portable device. ANT Galio Move has proved itself a unique application for the TV sector and demonstrates real innovation in a fast evolving market,” said Saleha Williams, Vice President BPL Broadcast Ltd, Organiser of the Connected World.TV Awards.
ANT Galio Move provides significant product differentiation in a crowded retail market by enabling STB and connected TV manufacturers to extend the capabilities of their device with second screen functionality that complements the main TV device. For broadcasters and operators, it can enhance and add value to an existing service. The user interface can be customised to highlight the functionality that they wish to promote to their users. Additional, extended metadata about programmes can be made available to users without adding excessive information on the main TV screen, and taking full advantage of the format and usage model of a companion device.
ANT will be showcasing ANT Galio Move at IBC until the end of the show. Please visit stand 4.C98 in Hall number 4 for a chance to see ANT Galio Move in action. Alternatively you can view a video demonstration at ANT’s YouTube Channel.
