Arqiva transmits 3D Wimbledon tennis final to worldwide cinemas
« Posted: July 19, 2012, 08:47:04 PM »

Arqiva has partnered with SuperVision Media to distribute the 2012 Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships Men's Final, live and in 3D to cinemas around the world. Arqiva’s Digital Cinema Satellite Distribution System provided the complete global transmission chain including SNG uplink, teleport services and satellite capacity. The feed was electronically distributed to European cinemas using Arqiva’s Digital Cinema platform on IS905, together with an international broadcast to reach 3D capable cinemas across the globe. This is the second year running that Arqiva and SuperVision Media has transmitted this famous tournament live to cinemas in high-definition 3D.

Marco Tinnirello, Head of Digital Cinema at Arqiva, said: “Our digital cinema platform on IS905 is well established for European HD and 3D cinema distribution while our integrated international network delivers the global reach necessary to bring this prestigious sporting event to worldwide audiences. Arqiva is acknowledged as the proven experts in live 3D cinema transmissions with extensive experience including the 2011 Wimbledon Tennis Championships, 2010 Rugby Six Nations, 2010 Football World Cup and the world’s first live 3D Opera.”

Daniel Webber, Managing Director at SuperVision Media, commented: “Following our successful partnership in delivering last year’s Wimbledon final we were keen that Arqiva provide the distribution elements of these important transmissions again this year. With take-up by cinemas across the globe it is vital to have a technology partner who can professionally handle the many and complicated regional variations in equipment and standards. The flexibility and reliability of Arqiva’s infrastructure, coupled with their experience and knowledge, ensured that cinemas all around the world could show the event in the highest possible quality and with maximum confidence.”
