Britons suffering more viruses now than two years ago - SA Mathieson, Computer Weekly

Viruses and phishing are affecting more Britons than two years ago, according to a major piece of research by Oxford University. The Oxford Internet Institute's 2007 survey found that 34% of users believe their computer is infected with a virus, up from 18% in 2005 - although in 2003, this figure was 43%. On phishing, 17% say they have been asked online for their bank details, up from 12% in 2005. Oxford Internet Institute did not ask this question in 2003. However, fewer people said they have received obscene or abusive e-mails, either from people they know (7%, compared with 20% in 2005) or from strangers (12%, compared with 20% two years ago).
