Caplin Systems Ltd., the real time web company, today announced the release of Liberator Free Edition (Liberator FE), a high performance Ajax/Comet streaming server that delivers real-time data to and from subscribers over any network, and includes JavaScript client and Java server integration libraries. Liberator FE is available as a free download (http://www.freeliberator.com/ ) and can be used for evaluation and non-commercial use. Liberator FE is the only Comet implementation that can deliver over one million complex messages per second and support up to 30,000 concurrent users on a single server.

Paul Caplin, CEO, Caplin, says: “Liberator, our award winning industrial-strength streaming web server, was originally developed for relentless and uncompromising trading environments, where low-latency, high performance and absolute reliability are essential. We are so confident of our technology that we decided to release Liberator FE, free of charge, so that people can use and evaluate it for themselves.”

Liberator FE’s performance and bandwidth is optimised using multi-threading for multi-core servers and boasts a host of features and data management capabilities. Liberator uses subject-based publish/subscribe of field/value messages, as well as many other application-oriented message and data types such as containers, directories, news, and filtered records. Liberator FE can also connect to many sources of data and intelligently route subscriptions.

Liberator FE comes with StreamLink for Browsers (SL4B), a comprehensive client library for integrating with Ajax or Flex™ Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) and full documentation. It also includes the DataSource for Java SDK; a library of Java classes used to create Java applications (DataSources) that exchange data and messages with Liberator FE on the server side. Liberator FE is written in C and runs on Linux®, or on Windows using VMware®.

Martin Tyler, Chief Software Architect says: “The Ajax movement is gaining momentum as more people discover the strong performance, security and resilience inherent in the technology. We have been developing our push technology for 10 years, and it is the best performing and fully-featured server for streaming real-time data to web pages currently available on the market. Our pedigree is demonstrated by our abundant endorsements from visionary blue-chip investment banks.”

Caplin’s technology serves over 80,000 end-users in top tier financial institutions such as Citigroup, Merrill Lynch, Royal Bank of Scotland, UBS, Royal Bank of Canada and ABN Amro.
