Cooperation Enables Merchants to Easily and Securely Support Chinese Consumers’ Payment Preferences to Drive Sales
New York – July 19, 2012 – Computop, a leading payment service provider (PSP), today announced the addition of Alipay, a commonly used third-party online payment solution in China, to its Paygate payment platform. As a result of this cooperation, Computop Paygate customers will benefit from being able to provide Alipay as a payment option to their customers. This will help to support merchants’ expansion into the region, where online retail sales have been rapidly growing and are expected to continue to increase.
According to a survey by China IntelliConsulting Corp., around 77.4 percent of first time online shoppers in China chose Alipay to pay for their first online purchase. 88.8 percent of the survey respondents named Alipay their most frequently used online payment tool. As of December 2011, Alipay had more than 650 million registered accounts.
“We are glad to work with Computop to help more international merchants tap into the growing Chinese market,” said Maggie Choo, Senior Director of Alipay. “Through our cooperation with Computop, Paygate customers will be able to support Chinese consumers’ payment preferences and bolster online sales in the region.”
“By offering Alipay through Computop Paygate, we are enabling companies to easily and securely sell into the vast buying audience in China,” said Ralf Gladis, CEO of Computop. “There is no need for companies to set up Chinese bank accounts or to do credit checks or validate buyer profiles. This is all part of the combined Paygate/Alipay solution. We are excited to be able to help merchants easily expand into China.”
Alipay is currently available via the Computop Paygate payment platform.
