DeviceAnywhere Delivers Palm Virtual Developer Lab
« Posted: May 20, 2008, 10:08:43 PM »

DeviceAnywhere offers remote access to Palm handsets for more efficient application development on Palm smartphones

(San Mateo Calif., USA), May 20, 2008 –  DeviceAnywhere™ today unveiled the new public Palm® Virtual Developer Lab (VDL) – a remote testing service designed to dramatically reduce the time and resources required to develop, test, monitor, and deploy applications and content for Palm smartphones http://www.deviceanywhere.com/palm/welcome.htm. The on-line service is available globally to all developers who register for DeviceAnywhere’s Palm package and provides support for in-market devices released by Palm, Inc., including the Treo® 755p and the new Palm Centro™ smartphone.

Through DeviceAnywhere, developers can collaborate and work in partnership with each other at any time and from anywhere. The result is a better connected community of developers, yielding better quality products and faster time to market.

DeviceAnywhere is a revolutionary online service that provides access to more than 1000 real handsets, on live worldwide mobile networks, remotely over the Internet, meeting all development, porting, testing, and monitoring needs. Unlike emulator/simulator-based solutions, DeviceAnywhere employs real, physical handsets – so anything that a user can do with a device in his/her hand, he/she can do with the handsets in DeviceAnywhere – in real-time. This includes tasks such as pressing device buttons, tapping on touch screens, connecting/disconnecting the battery, viewing the LCD, listening to ringers and speakers, and opening/closing a handset.

Cost-effective and efficient, DeviceAnywhere eliminates the inefficiencies of manual testing and the high costs of acquiring handsets and service plans, as well as enables developers to bring content to market faster than ever before. Beyond remote access, developers can also perform automated testing through DeviceAnywhere Pro™ (http://www.deviceanywhere.com/products/da_pro/overview.htm), and perform 24x7 Quality of Service (QoS) monitoring through DeviceAnywhere Monitoring™ (http://www.deviceanywhere.com/products/da_monitoring/overview.htm), to ensure ongoing quality and availability of their products.

“Through the DeviceAnywhere service, developers get the benefits of testing their application on multiple devices through the convenience of their desktop development environment,” said Mark Bercow, Palm SVP, business development. “The service also allows Palm to make devices available to thousands of developers who request devices for their development purposes.”

Access to the most in-demand commercially available devices Through the Palm Virtual Developer Lab, developers have access to Palm’s most popular devices. Featured devices include the Treo 755p and the Palm Centro, Palm’s new lightweight, feature-packed low-cost smartphone. Centro – which has sold more than one million units since its introduction last fall -- offers voice, text, email, web, contact and calendar capabilities, a color touch screen and full keyboard, all in one small, fun compact phone for just $99 (after rebate and service plan).

To access the Palm Virtual Developer Lab, users simply register by selecting the Palm VDL option on DeviceAnywhere’s Web site (www.deviceanywhere.com). Once registered, users are able to access Palm smartphones within the Virtual Developer Lab, press buttons, view LCD displays, and listen to ringers and speakers. Additional DeviceAnywhere features – such as monitoring and test automation – are also available on all Palm Virtual Developer Lab smartphones, empowering users to more efficiently create better applications and content for the marketplace.

“Smartphones continue to be among the most sought after handsets for application development and Palm continues to be a leader in the smartphone community,” said Faraz Syed, CEO and co-founder of DeviceAnywhere. “Now, especially with the launch of the Centro – which has proven to be a boon for Palm – the Palm Virtual Developer Lab is a very valuable extension of DeviceAnywhere for our users.”

DeviceAnywhere will create complimentary accounts for all members of the Palm Developer Network (PDN) program, as well as fund each account with three free hours with which to use the service. Further, DeviceAnywhere representatives will host training sessions to educate PDN members on how to sign up for and use the solution, as well as provide customer support each week from 12:00 am PST Monday through 5:00 pm PST Friday.
