London 18th October 2007 –JANETtxt delivered by PageOne, the UK’s leading provider of wireless messaging solutions, on behalf of JANET(UK) has been chosen by the Student Services Department at Blackburn College to instantly communicate important information, such as loan payments and administrative notifications, to their students. The college has found JANETtxt messaging service particularly useful this month with the postal strikes causing huge backlogs in communication.
With threats of more postal strikes over the coming months, educational communities have been encouraged to find an innovative approach to effectively communicate with their students. Blackburn College have been particularly impressed by the vast amount of ways they have been able to integrate the JANET txt messaging system within the college. Not only is it useful for loan payments, but can also be used for administrative notifications such as lecture changes or exam results, mentoring special needs students, business continuity such as emergency planning, questions to tutors and for marketing events.
“Text messaging is an excellent way of communicating with our students,” says Cecily Rogers, Information and Guidance Services Manager, Blackburn College. “Not only have we found it useful in a variety of different areas but we also quickly realised that sending a text message to students has heavily reduced the administration costs of sending out letters.”
The JANETtxt messaging service delivered by PageOne on behalf of JANET(UK) is a comprehensive suite of secure one and two-way text messaging services and is specifically tailored to meet the requirements of the UK Education Community. Since its launch in May 2007, the service has grown to be a very successful communication tool amongst schools, colleges and universities and there are future plans to integrate the JANETtxt service with Moodle, an open source VLE.
