After working in a classroom for 16 years, Nancy Kaminsky said she had gotten used to working with blackboards and chalk. This will make coming to work at the new North Schuylkill Elementary a unique experience for the first-grade teacher, because there aren’t any. “Working in a new environment can make you nervous,” said Kaminsky, Kulpmont. “It’s the unknown. There is a lot of technology that we normally didn’t have, like smart boards instead of chalk boards.” Sixty-five of the new school’s 68 classrooms are equipped with a Smart Board Interactive Whiteboard System with a Unifi 35 Projector, said Keith D. Yarger, elementary school principal. “The screens are interactive. You can touch the screen as if it was a mouse,” said Thomas L. Kowalonek, district business manager. “You don’t need to be over at a computer to work it. It also acts as a television and DVD player.
