Fraunhofer SIT’s criticism of the security of TeamDrive’s cloud data storage is unjustified
Hamburg – June 12th 2012 – The ULD (Unabhängiges Landeszentrum für Datenschutz Schleswig-Holstein) has issued a statement confirming it upholds TeamDrive’s privacy seal certification, an opinion validated by other independent technical and legal experts. According to the ULD, TeamDrive continues to fulfill the stringent security requirements necessary for the privacy seal to be issued.
The ULD and other experts welcomed Fraunhofer SIT’s detailed study. It gives valuable information about security weaknesses of cloud services. However, with respect to TeamDrive 2.4, the ULD accredited experts – lawyer Stefan Hansen-Oest and IT specialist Andrew Bethke – reject the Fraunhofer SIT’s criticisms. In their opinion, the transport and encryption standards used by TeamDrive constitute a powerful combination of known, reliable, symmetric and asymmetric encryption techniques.
Attorney Hansen-Oest explained: “As Kerckhoffs’s principle states, a cryptosystem should be secure even if everything about the system, except the key, is public knowledge. Encryption does not weaken security when the encryption algorithm is rated as secure and made available only to recognised certification bodies. These criteria are met by TeamDrive.”
According to the experts, the Fraunhofer Institute has evaluated TeamDrive inaccurately. The TeamDrive Enterprise Host Server gives enterprises full control over privacy and security. The Fraunhofer study completely overlooked server-based solutions for private clouds and TeamDrive’s ability to run on its own servers.
The option of running a TeamDrive server within a company’s own data centre as well as on a public and a private cloud makes it a highly attractive, secure, enterprise-ready alternative to Dropbox.
TeamDrive is the only cloud storage solution that carries the German data protection seal of approval.
