Interxion, a leading provider of carrier-neutral data centres in Europe, today announced that Internet Service Provider HKN has recently expanded its presence in the company’s Dusseldorf data centre. HKN, which sells hosting, security and access solutions to the reseller market, is broadening its portfolio to include consumer services, and Interxion’s data centre provides the ideal environment for the extension of HKN’s internal and customer-facing IT operations to support the move. The agreement is the latest step in a working relationship between HKN and Interxion which dates back to 2002.
In addition to the new data centre space, Interxion will provide HKN with office space for technical staff. HKN will use the new space to house more efficient and reliable servers to support the company’s new product offerings. A number of factors – primarily security, reliability, scalability and energy-efficiency – influenced the decision. The Interxion Dusseldorf data campus provides a redundant power supply infrastructure, multi-level security systems and extensive fire protection measures. It also deploys the latest air conditioning systems, with a maximum efficiency ratio, as part of Interxion’s internal energy efficient design and operations programme.
“This is a natural next step in what has been an excellent working relationship,” said Lutz Knabenreich, Managing Director of HKN GmbH. “It is not just Interxion’s quality and flexibility which meet our requirements, but also the high levels of efficiency provided by Interxion’s state-of-the-art engineering.”
“Long before ‘Green IT’ dominated the industry media we kept a close internal focus on energy efficiency, so we are particularly pleased that this was one of the reasons that HKN chose Interxion,” said Peter Knapp, Managing Director, Interxion Germany. “With environmental awareness rising, we expect energy efficiency to play an increasingly key role in influencing purchasing decisions.”
