-DE-CIX expands its infrastructure at Interxion Frankfurt-
DE-CIX, the central, international Internet exchange in Frankfurt am Main, has expanded its infrastructure at Interxion, a leading European operator of carrier-neutral data centres, by extending its Internet exchange infrastructure into Interxion’s latest Frankfurt data centre, Frankfurt5. For the exchange DE-CIX, this means that they now have five infrastructure locations distributed across the city of Frankfurt. Moving into the new data centre will give DE-CIX and its customers more space to grow as well as access to some of the most advanced IT infrastructure currently available in Germany.
The newly extended relationship brings significant advantages for DE-CIX customers. Inter-continental Internet Service Providers and telcos in particular will find the one-stop-shop for peering and colocation opportunity very attractive. DE-CIX participants can peer at the Internet Exchange and secure the data centre space they need at the same time. Over the many years of cooperation between DE-CIX and Interxion, which have culminated in DE-CIX’s expansion into Frankfurt 5, the international importance of Frankfurt as Germany’s digital communication hub has grown steadily, to the extent that today no exchange in the world has more Internet traffic than DE-CIX.
“While many other exchanges are hitting their capacity limits, data traffic in Frankfurt is still growing significantly, driven by our international reach and the quality of the infrastructure we can offer,” said Frank P. Orlowski, Director of Business Development and Marketing at DE-CIX. “DE-CIX does not just offer fast, high-quality Internet connectivity in Germany; we work with Internet companies from over 40 countries for whom Frankfurt and Germany clearly have a location advantage. In addition, Interxion’s Frankfurt5 data centre offers state-of-the-art space including the most efficient and fail-safe infrastructure available today. Among other things, 2N emergency power supply, an energy-efficient cooling system, biometric access controls, multiple layers of physical security and a 24/7 security team ensure that the German Internet exchange in Frankfurt has the infrastructure it needs.”
“There is more data exchanged at the Interxion data centre campus in Frankfurt than anywhere else in Germany,” said Peter Knapp, Managing Director Interxion Germany. “An exceptionally varied community of telecommunications companies has settled in our data centres and around DE-CIX. This means that even customers who are not connected to DE-CIX can easily benefit from improved connectivity. As this interconnected community continues to grow, the international significance of Frankfurt as a communication hub will also continue to rise.”
