Launch of AeroGRID Aerial Imagery Alliance
« Posted: September 30, 2008, 08:05:58 PM »

INTERGEO, Bremen, 30th September 2008 - Today sees the official launch of AeroGRID, a new partnership that delivers high-resolution aerial photography from across Europe and beyond. AeroGRID founding partners are AeroData of Belgium, Getmapping from the UK, and GeoContent from Germany; each holds nationwide coverage for their respective countries and more with total coverage exceeding 1.5m sq km including the homes of more than 300m people. The aerial imagery is available in a number of different custom formats as specified by customers and online through the AeroGRID website – www.aerogrid.net.

AeroGRID partners operate 10 different survey aircraft and high-resolution digital cameras making it one of the largest producers of aerial imagery in Europe. This enables more efficient use of resources to deliver pan-European coverage and a regular update programme. AeroGRID is seeking new partners to extend coverage both in and beyond Europe to build the world’s largest commercial aerial imagery dataset.

Partners will sell AeroGRID data within their own markets but all imagery will be made available for purchase online. AeroGRID partners contribute aerial imagery data, sales and flying resources.

Aerial photography has been revolutionised by the advent of digital technologies and workflows enabling the creation of seamless high-resolution geo-referenced photomaps that can be viewed by anyone. Aerial photography is now in daily use across governments, by emergency services, utilities and infrastructure organisations, planning and built environment professionals, the media as well as many businesses and consumers. Access to complete aerial coverage of the whole of the European Union is now closer to reality thanks to this innovative partnership.

“AeroGRID offers a one-stop-shop for European and indeed World imagery with extensive coverage, available on or off line,” said Miles Taylor, General Manager of AeroGRID.  “By attracting new partners and leveraging our combined resources AeroGRID will extend coverage across Europe and beyond, working to build the world’s largest most up to date commercial aerial imagery dataset. This will be a vital resource in meeting the commercial and environmental challenges of the 21st Century,” continued Taylor.
