Eurecan European Venture contest crowns Liquavista as top technology company in Europe
Liquavista on Tuesday was crowned winning Technology Company at the Eurecan European Venture Contest. In the final held over 2 days in Barcelona, Liquavista was selected from around 400 other technology companies to win the top technology title and out of 750 competing companies came 2nd in the overall competition.
“This is a wonderful result” said Guy Demuynck, Liquavista’s CEO, “The recognition that this gives is further endorsement of our vision to create a new display technology that will not only revolutionise e-books and eReaders but further supports our conviction that Liquavista technology will have a profound impact on the future of consumer electronics and enhance the lives of all consumers. The very positive feedback from the jury of over 25 investors strongly confirms the believe in the proposition not just by us, but also by the European financial community “
“Taking part in the competition and ending up winning the ICT sector is really exciting for us. Having worked so hard from inception to first products at Liquavista, it was an honour not only to have presented Liquavista at these events but also to have been part of developing Liquavista’s core technology” Added Johan Feenstra, Liquavista’s CTO and founder. “This has been a real team effort. The enormous enthusiasm in Liquavista’s technology in the wider industry will now accelerate bringing our displays to the market.”
“Liquavista at each stage of the competition has competed hard in the ICT sector to cover the full criteria that we look for in winning competitors” stated William Stevens, CEO of Europe Unlimited. “Their vision of a future where we can all use displays that offer outdoor viewability as well as strongly reduced power consumption is a real benefit that we see consumers are eager to get.”
The 5th edition of the Eurecan European Venture contest took place in 10 qualifying events and covers companies across the whole of the region from ICT, Biotech and Cleantech businesses. Presenting in front of international investors and corporations, competitors are assessed on a range of criteria such as the product attractiveness to potential customers, team experience plus state of the art and technology advancement against core competition.
Focused on solving the existing constraints of the current technology in the eReader market place, Liquavista’s displays, based on the technology of electrowetting, are already demonstrating the benefits of highly dynamic displays as well as the potential of colour and video in truly mobile devices.
Liquavista are developing three technology platforms (LiquavistaBright™, LiquavistaColor™ and LiquavistaVivid™) planned for product implementation throughout 2010/2011.
The first technology platform, LiquavistaBright, will enable a smooth and fast user interface on eReader devices, thanks to the inherent video capability. Offering a unique combination of outstanding brightness and high contrast in all lighting conditions; excellent legibility and functional freedom, LiquavistaBright will combine the durable eBook with a new multimedia experience – one of the most requested benefits of existing and future consumers.
The new displays can be seen on stand 12041 at CES 2010 taking place 7th to 11th January 2010 at Las Vegas Convention Centre or you can see the latest video of our demonstrators by visiting
