Metro and Long Haul WDM mixed: A new class of its own
« Posted: June 17, 2008, 10:19:54 PM »

At WDM in Cannes Nokia Siemens Networks will report on new Multi Reach WDM systems combing the best of Metro and Long Haul WDM platforms.

Metro DWDM networks have evolved from opportunistic, case-by-case driven installations to a basic carrier infrastructure. A clear change in the customer requirements comes along with this. In addition to typical Metro WDM merits like flexibility and cost efficiency, carriers expect increasing performance, maturity, and manageability required for large network build outs.

A new type of solution, the Multi Reach WDM system, is showing up on the market place. This brings long-haul and metro technologies together and in a market which has seen a drop in growth it will enable carriers to save money in terms to training, support and maintenance. Through bringing Metro and Long Haul WDM systems closer together, and combined with extensive support for Ethernet service provisioning, this has potential to become the new work-horse in Carrier's Metro network.

The presentation will be held on 24th June at 5:35 p.m.
