Microsoft launching Seattle-Redmond bus serviceMicrosoft, in addition to unveiling a big Seattle expansion plan, is announcing this morning that it will launch a free, wi-fi enabled bus service for employees going to and from its Redmond campus to other places in the region. The pilot program is starting later this month, with capacity for as many as 1,000 employees, the company says.
The five routes will go to Redmond and back from locations in Seattle, Issaquah, Mill Creek, Sammammish and Bothell, according to the company. The initial capacity could be increased over time depending on demand, a company spokesman said.
On the real estate front, as we reported this morning, the company says it's leasing four floors of Paul Allen's Westlake/Terry complex in South Lake Union, with room for 400 employees, many of them from its online unit. In addition, the company is leasing space on three floors of the 111 S. Jackson St. Building in Pioneer Square. And it's taking a smaller space in Paul Allen's 505 Union Station building for its robotics team.
