More than 1 million pre-orders for Microsoft's `Halo 3'


      Microsoft said pre-orders of the next version of its bestselling alien-shooting Xbox game, "Halo 3," exceeded 1 million units, setting a record for early video game purchases. The highest-priced edition of the game, a $129 version packaged in a replica of the helmet worn by the main character, will probably be sold out by the time "Halo 3" makes its debut Sept. 25, Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft said in a statement. Microsoft's goal of making the Xbox unit profitable this fiscal year hinges on the success of "Halo 3."
