7th January 2010 - Eindhoven - Today Liquavista BV and GBO Design-Engineering have unveiled a compact eReader concept produced to showcase Liquavista’s display technology.  Nicknamed ‘the Pebble’, the product concept was conceived to demonstrate to users and customers the impact of adopting dynamic high-brightness displays within a product environment and illustrate the values and benefits of Liquavista technology over existing eReader screens.

“This collaboration demonstrates the way that our displays can be visualized and the impact that our technology will have on next generation devices” commented Guy Demuynck, Liquavista’s CEO.  “With the Pebble concept and the launch of our new color display LiquavistaColor, consumers can now read not only books but also enjoy magazines or newspapers as well as browse photos, video clips, enjoy social networking and make video calls. This is a true realisation of a device that drives the long term functionality of eReader products.”

“Our design was inspired from seeing the true benefits of Liquavista’s displays and wanting to take their benefits and produce a concept product that was far superior to existing stereotypical eReaders” added Tom Schreuder, Product Designer at GBO Design–Engineering. “Ergonomically this design is a major improvement over the flat shape that digital readers predominantly have and has been designed with the consumer in mind – The Pebble is both small and lightweight, has a smooth touch and fits neatly in the hand of the user.”

Liquavista’s high performance display technology has intrinsic high-speed video capability which will vastly expand the functionality and user experience of digital reading devices.  It enables the next generation of eReaders to play video, smoothly browse the web and make video calls, using the camera featured in this concept. The technology has also been developed so that it can be produced within existing display manufacturing facilities, making full use of large capacity, low cost manufacturing techniques.

GBO’s design distinguishes itself from the stereotypical shape of current digital readers, resulting in a 6" handheld multimedia eReader which is both small and lightweight. The back casing has a comfortable and soft pebble-like shape and together with the concave front surface, in a soft-touch finish, provides a more tactile experience for the user. Navigation buttons to flip pages are integrated in the soft-touch frame and using the touch display, further navigating through the device’s interface can be done intuitively with your fingers or a stylus pen.

The eReader concept and Liquavista’s new displays can be seen on stand 12041 at CES 2010, taking place 7th to 11th January 2010 at Las Vegas Convention Centre. You can see the latest video of our demonstrators by visiting www.liquavista.com/liquavistapebble
