FlexACM® doubles satellite throughput while providing 100 % link availability
Newtec announced today that it has been awarded the accolade of “Teleport Technology of the Year” for its FlexACM® technology, by the World Teleport Association. The award was presented at the 14th annual Teleport Awards for Excellence Ceremony and Luncheon at SATELLITE 2009 in Washington, DC. FlexACM® is a capability on Newtec’s Elevation product line that allows simple, yet very efficient implementation of ACM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation) in IP trunking and IP backbone systems, doubling satellite throughput and customer satisfaction by providing 100 % link availability.
The unique FlexACM® capability, which is the first of its kind, allows implementation of ACM in both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint configurations, for unidirectional as well as bidirectional links. The introduction of FlexACM® into the Newtec Elevation product line marks another step forward for adaptive coding and modulation technology up to 32APSK 9/10; previously the complexity of ACM meant that no commercial systems were available for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint SCPC/MCPC systems for IP trunking and IP backbone systems.
Elevation is a family of professional equipment specifically designed to optimize the efficiency and performance of IP applications over satellite, in full compliance with the DVB standards. The Elevation family includes IP modulators, IP demodulators and IP modems, as well as a range of IP appliances that provide state-of-the-art traffic enhancement, compression and protection capabilities for the IP services.
Newtec CEO, Serge Van Herck, said: “Here at Newtec we value our reputation for innovation and forward-looking solutions, so we are extremely proud to have won such a prestigious award.”
“This particular award is given to companies whose technology has contributed to the growth and development of the industry and we feel that FlexACM® has done just that. It provides an increased throughput of more than 100 percent and a continuous service even during extreme weather or link degradation conditions.”, concluded Van Herck.
ACM technology is incorporated into the DVB-S2 standard, providing significant increases in bandwidth efficiency for satellite applications and allowing modification of modulation parameters of a satellite signal during almost any form of interference, without interrupting the transmission or losing data. The technology is successfully helping companies like Horizon Satellite Services, SkyVision, Cobranet and many others to get the most out of their satellite links, resulting in an important bandwidth increase and 100 % service availability.
The Teleport Technology of the Year award is given every year to the company in the satellite industry whose technology has best contributed to the growth and development of the teleport industry for a period of at least two years. Recipients of the WTA Teleport Technology of the year award are selected by committees of previous recipients, WTA board members, and Industry Leader and Patron members.
