Philippines’ Largest Wireless Service Provider Selects SurfKitchen for New Application Store
SurfKitchen to Power Intuitive User Experience across Mobile Internet Applications and Services for Smart Communications, Inc.
CTIA Wireless: Las Vegas, Nevada, – April 1, 2009 – SurfKitchen today announced that it is working with Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART), the Philippines' leading wireless services provider, to support the delivery of its mobile Internet applications and services. SMART has selected components of the SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform to help it deliver an intuitive and personalized user experience to its subscribers.
A wholly owned subsidiary of the country’s dominant telecommunications carrier, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), SMART has over 34 million mobile subscribers. To enhance the delivery of mobile Internet applications and services across its entire subscriber base, SMART is working with SurfKitchen to develop a branded application store which will allow users to browse, preview and purchase a wide variety of mobile data services and messaging orientated mobile widgets and services.
Built on the SurfKitchen technology platform, the new SMART application store will include movies, games, music, TV, and news. The TV element will include an Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) that will enable users to stream live TV and switch channels. The new messaging orientated mobile widgets and services will allow SMART’s subscribers to easily access Google Gmail, forums, and photo sharing services. The project will also include an account management element that will allow users to view and manage their bills on their devices.
