RealVNC Launches New VNC Remote Control Solution For Enterprises
« Posted: September 26, 2007, 07:25:13 PM »

New Enterprise Edition 4.3 offers full cross-platform support including Vista

RealVNC has announced the latest enterprise release of its VNC, Virtual Network Computing, solution for remote desktop access with full support for Microsoft Vista. VNC Enterprise Edition 4.3 allows one computer to take full control of another regardless of platform and operating system or whether they are on the local network or anywhere in the world over the Internet.

This cross-platform capability means that for example, Linux desktop applications can be delivered to Windows or Mac users, or vice versa.

VNC is already used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide for applications ranging from remote access and home working to remote maintenance and training, helpdesks and business collaboration. VNC Enterprise Edition has been developed to provide a fully scalable, robust and secure solution for demanding single and multi-platform environments.

VNC can be up and running in seconds and takes up just a few MBs of disk and RAM, while a built-in Java viewer also allows access through a browser without installing any software on the controlling computer.

Enterprise Edition 4.3 comes complete with tools for wide-scale distributed deployment, configuration and management and supports more operating systems than any other remote access system, including Windows 95, 98, 2K, ME, NT4, XP, Vista, Mac OSX, Linux, Solaris, HPUX, Java and WinCE.

"The Enterprise Edition 4.3 release adds a range of high quality enhancements to what is already an extremely popular remote control tool. We have been careful to preserve the simplicity, flexibility and cross-platform support - now including Vista - which make VNC Enterprise Edition ideal for increasingly distributed and virtual corporate environments. VNC is used in very many ways but desktop support or helpdesk are typical applications. Our customers gain immediate and significant returns on investment," says Dr Andy Harter, CEO at RealVNC.

Features such as integrated File Transfer and dynamic Desktop Scaling are now fully platform-wide and multiple view-only or full-control connections can be made to the same desktop for collaborative working or training. The VNC software automatically configures itself to provide best performance for LAN, WAN, Cable/ADSL or dialup connection speeds.

2048bit RSA authentication and 128bit AES encryption provides industry best-practice security while centralised logging gives a detailed audit trail of connections. Incoming connections can be filtered by IP address patterns and ranges, and the software is configurable to authenticate users with existing domain user-name/password schemes.

RealVNC software is a very cost effective and affordable remote-control solution. The cost of VNC Enterprise Edition starts at USD50.00 (Eur35) for a single VNC Server licence. The generous volume pricing starts at 3 copies and quickly reduces the unit price to only a few dollars a copy at 1,000 licences and above. In addition, there are academic, governmental and non-profit discounts available on request.
