SCC fast tracks leading public and private sector organisations to 15% savings through Software Asset Management

June 30, 2008 - For many IT managers software asset management means avoiding the risk of litigation by software vendors for unlicensed copies. It conjures images of complex, stringent and heavily enforced licence agreements and detailed and painstaking audits. However, SCC believes that it can and should release value and significantly reduce costs within the organisation. Using its new Optimise Software approach SCC has achieved real costs savings in excess of 15 per cent for key customers.

Working with SCC, a leading brewer recently centralised its software licence purchasing, reviewed it’s overall licence position, improved purchasing power with Microsoft and as a result was able to reduce licence spend by 50 per cent.

A London Borough faced with a mixed estate of licences and a complex process for managing them, called in SCC to audit and assess risk. As a result it has already seen a 15 per cent reduction in cost and a 20 per cent increase in efficiency.

A leading UK bank has also outsourced its software procurement to SCC in a management deal which covers 8600 computers and licences from Microsoft. Projected savings are expected to exceed 15 per cent of the annual software licence budget.

“For many Software Asset Management means defending the organisation against the risk of litigation and being vigilant in ensuring that the organisation has no unlicensed software,” commented Angus Vause, general manager of software asset management at SCC. “This is essentially a negative view. For us SAM is an opportunity to not only show immediate cost savings, but to optimise the software estate of a customer and provide a permanent resolution for more efficient management of licensing.”

The SCC Optimise Software Asset Management approach enables customers to only ever buy the software they absolutely need to meet their business requirements whilst always remaining legally compliant. It also ensures that software management policies and processes are efficient and effective, saving time and money and protecting the organisation from software compliance-related risk.

SCC’s SAM Process Consultants are totally focused on SAM, spending all of their time working with customers to develop their SAM function regardless of organisation size, industry sector or complexity of licence estate. They offer a portfolio of SAM services including:

•   Advice and consultancy services
•   Initial software asset assessments
•   Licence entitlement studies
•   Procurement advice
•   SAM process design
•   Data cleansing and complex inventory output
•   Complete outsourced management.
