SCTE Launches New Online Training Assessment Centre
« Posted: June 13, 2012, 11:20:11 PM »

The SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) has launched a new online training assessment centre, via the SCTE website www.thescte.eu. This now offers fully Internet-based training assessments for broadband installation technicians, enabling its global membership of engineers to complete their training more rapidly and to further their careers with fully accredited SCTE qualifications. The SCTE’s training committee will be demonstrating the new online training assessment centre at SCTE’s booth G039 (Hall 10.2) at the ANGA Cable Show in Cologne.

“The ongoing evolution and development of our training courses is core to the principles of the Society and we firmly believe that our new online assessment tools will enhance and reinforce their validity," explained Mike Thornton, Chairman of the SCTE Training Committee.

The SCTE (the Society for Broadband Professionals) offers a wide range of professional development options for its members to further their careers and expand their knowledge base and qualifications. These range from comprehensive training courses (installation technicians, service technicians and network technicians) and individual course books (for home study or instructor-led use) with SCTE certification to technical lecture meetings, online video presentations and its new online assessment training centre. Students completing the courses successfully become accredited SCTE Technicians and are issued with SCTE Certificates.

SCTE training courses have gained wide acceptance as the standard for young technicians wishing to enter the field of cable telecommunications and for those wishing to advance their knowledge and career prospects. They are used in-house by a number of operating companies and SCTE engineers can be found working in a variety of international organisations. The SCTE provides training and certification to engineers in many different countries, sometimes with local training providers, its most recent training initiative was launched in India last year.

Founded in 1945, the SCTE is a Learned Society and non-profitmaking organisation whose aim is to raise the standard of broadband engineering in the telecommunications industry. It is one of the world’s oldest established telecommunications engineers’ organisations. SCTE members can be found in 42 countries worldwide with a concentration in traditional ‘PAL’ TV areas; Europe, Hong Kong, Australia and South Africa. The Society particularly concerns itself with the training and career advancement of technical professionals in the field and also provides accreditation and certification for its members, giving them professional standing within the industry.

The SCTE also stages lecture meetings six to seven times per year, mainly at the IET in London, in the Balkans and through its Benelux Group at selected European venues including IBC. The SCTE also runs an annual Balkan Broadband conference and exhibition in the Balkans, supported by high level sponsors. The Society chairs the British Standards Committee for cable systems and represents the UK at European (CENELEC) and world (IEC) levels.
