Security starts with the database
« Posted: May 09, 2012, 07:51:06 PM »

New solution launched to secure the database where information needs to be 100 per cent secure and yet totally available

A new Software Developers Kit (SDK), designed to keep all information stored in corporate databases secure, has been launched by the UK search specialist, Simplexo.

Simplexo Data-Secure SDK has been built to enable developers and database administrators to have an easy-to-use toolset with which to secure and search database records. This is done by providing the user with a set of C++, .NET and PHP modules, which can be integrated into existing projects and systems.

Simon Bain CTO, Simplexo, stated: “The Simplexo Data Secure SDK enables database administrators full control over encryption of all database fields. With AES 256 x 2 encryption and full text searchability, it provides full security and integrity for your database records.”

The new SDK is an ideal solution for online banking where data has to be 100 per cent secure and available. A recent attack on a Visa and Mastercard merchant (Global Payments) has shown how lax information storage in databases can be. It is thought that at least 1.5M card details were stolen from the company’s databases.

In addition, it is the ideal solution for an organisation’s Cloud strategy as it secures all database records, and provides a secure on-line database for content searching. In other words, all information placed in the Cloud is only viewable by those who are authorised to access it.

Simon continued: “According to research commissioned by the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF), one of the biggest barriers hindering Cloud uptake centres on security so Simplexo Data-Secure SDK aims to address this one issue head-on delivering confidence for both organisations and consumers alike.”

Website user databases can also be secured. Information stored by online sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Gmail, Microsoft Live and Sony Playstation all store personal information in databases that are directly connected to the Internet and are therefore vulnerable to attack. By securing these records users’ private information is stored securely, without compromising on accessibility or speed of use.

Simon continued: “Hacking will always be with us. It is not something that we can stop. However allowing un-encrypted data to be held in a database is unforgivable. People’s private information should be just that. Private. Because we see that hacking is inevitable we have worked hard to find ways of making the database information useless to any would be hackers. So what we’ve done is create a way for all database records to be fully encrypted while remaining searchable. This means that there are now no excuses for not having the information stored in your databases encrypted.”

Simplexo Data-Secure SDK is based on AES 256 x 2 encryption; patterns removed; Full-Text, Wild Card and Matched searches are all maintained without decryption required and works with all databases including SQL, Flat File and NoSQL.
