Paris, France, 11th June 2012 - Bluwan S.A., a provider of carrier-grade multi-gigabit wireless solutions, has appointed Simon Roberts as Director of Global Sales. Roberts will be responsible for heading up Bluwan’s channel and direct sales. He will also manage Bluwan’s sales engineering for its disruptive Fibre Through The Air (FTTA™) point to multipoint (PMP) small cell wireless backhaul platform.
Shayan Sanyal, Chief Commercial Officer at Bluwan, comments, “We are delighted to welcome Simon onto our team. He brings nearly a decade of valuable telecoms business development experience to Bluwan at an exciting time of growth. We are seeing a lot of demand from mobile operators for innovative millimetre wave small cell backhaul solutions, such as ours, to support them as they move towards LTE to provide the multi-gigabit capacity needed for 4G services.”
A recognised telecoms professional, Roberts’ experience ranges from innovative start-ups to established global vendors. He most recently served as Vice President, European Wireless Division at Intracom Telecom, a leading microwave telecoms equipment manufacturer, where he oversaw sales for the European Market. Prior to that, Roberts was Sales Director at Cambridge Broadband Networks Limited, covering the European and North African markets and driving substantial growth over four years.
Particularly suitable for providing greater RAN capacity to small cell network topologies in dense urban areas, Bluwan’s FTTA backhaul provides a massive amount of cost effective capacity, up to 2 Gbps in each sector, for up to 20 cell sites at 100 Mbps each. Operating in the 42 GHz band, FTTA is an ideal solution to enable operators to meet the demand for increased network capacity. It provides the 100 Mbps needed for LTE that copper cannot accommodate, avoids the expensive trenching of laying cable, and is much more economical than Point to Point (PTP) wireless backhaul solutions (see “Bluwan reveals total cost of ownership for small cell backhaul solutions”).
