SWG-1200 the most powerful addition to the popular ‘Guardian’ filtering family
Leeds, UK, 21st December 2009 - Web security specialists
SmoothWall today announced a new addition to its family of “
Guardian” web filtering appliances – the SWG-1200 series.
Due for official release at the
BETT Show in January, SmoothWall’s new Secure Web Gateway appliance is positioned to provide larger education establishments with a higher performance alternative to the company’s existing
SWG-700 Series.
Accredited by
Becta, SmoothWall’s Guardian filtering technology already provides thousands of schools with solid protection against anonymous proxies and online games, intelligent tools to prevent cyberbullying and flexible control over bandwidth-hungry streaming media. With improved performance, scalability and resilience capabilities, the SWG-1200 allows SmoothWall to extend these benefits to larger state schools and further education colleges.
According to recent government figures, school sizes are growing rapidly with the number of children in large schools (2000+ pupils) thought to have trebled in the past 3 years.
SmoothWall Product Manager Tom Newton says: “The addition of the SWG-1200 means we can offer a dedicated and reliable hardware-based appliance to more sizeable schools with much more complex network needs.”
The SWG-1200 series has an improved 1U chassis which accommodates a 2.6 GHz Quad Core Processor, 4 Gigabytes of RAM and 2x 500Gbyte mirrored RAID disks for improved resilience in larger network environments. SmoothWall will be showcasing the new Secure Web Gateway 1200 at BETT 2010 (stand G85). Pricing is yet to be released.
