Telehouse Europe Reaches Key Milestone in the Construction of £80million Datacentre
Final bolt of Telehouse West facility tightened in ‘topping out’ ceremony
LONDON, UK, 22 September 2009 –
Telehouse Europe today announced that the final bolt of its
Telehouse West datacentre has been put into place. As part of yesterday’s ‘topping out’ ceremony, staff gathered on the top floor of the nine-storey building to witness Mr Mitsui, Managing Director, Telehouse Europe, tighten the last of 57,334 bolts used in the construction of the state-of-the-art facility.
The ceremony marked a key milestone in the building of Telehouse West, which is due for completion in March 2010. The
datacentre will provide 19,000 square metres of secure storage space for UK businesses and will act as a connection hub to
over 60 available carriers and
over 300 ISPs, allowing customers to choose the service that best suits their needs. The facility will also help companies reduce their carbon footprint by exporting waste heat to help heat nearby homes and businesses in the heart of London’s Docklands. The move will save up to 1,110 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum and provide up to nine megawatts of power for the local neighbourhood.
Commenting on the topping out ceremony, Mr Mitsui said: “Yesterday represented a significant achievement for all the staff involved in the building of Telehouse West. Construction of the facility has progressed extremely fast since the beginning of the year, which is testament to months of hard work from both Telehouse Europe employees and our contractors, MACE. When complete, the datacentre will be Telehouse Europe’s flagship European facility.”
