The Bunker receives planning permission for The Bunker 2
« Posted: July 14, 2009, 09:26:12 PM »

New data centre will offer out-of-town N+1 redundancy

Kent, UK, 14 July 2009, The Bunker today announces that final planning permission has been granted for The Bunker 2, a new 12,000m2 high specification carrier-neutral London contingency data centre on its existing military level, ISO 27001 accredited security site in Sandwich, Kent.

The Bunker 2 will be situated at the hub of the main UK to Europe Internet routes, offering high-speed, non-London reliant links to Europe, the US and traditional ‘at risk’ London Internet hubs, while perfectly positioned to provide London-based data centres with long awaited N+1 redundancy. The new facility will be supported by 2000m2 of rentable support and office accommodation manned 24/7/365 by CRB screened security and technical personnel.

Peregrine Newton, CEO, The Bunker, commented “we are delighted to have received full planning permission for this new facility. It will provide a highly secure, low risk Internet hub outside of London to service clients who wish to house internet-connected systems in the UK, without being reliant on high risk London zones.”

“Our design brief was to create a facility that was inaudible, invisible and green.” said Simon Neal, director of data centre services, The Bunker 2. “Sustainability was a key factor in the design of The Bunker 2 and the materials used and construction techniques will reflect this.”

The Bunker 2 conforms to PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) best practice for low energy and renewable data centre design facilitating the creation of a green data centre that in turn will achieve a very good BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) rating while maintaining the military grade quality which is its heritage.

Advanced features of the facility will include state of the art cooling, fire protection systems, specialised high density areas and scalable power for future expansion, all backed up with 24/7/365 onsite qualified technical support and unrivalled levels of security.
