London, 29 October 2008 - United Planet (
www.unitedplanet.com), a leading developer of Enterprise Portal software in Europe, has introduced a Lotus Notes Business Adapter for its out-of-the-box portal, intranet and web application software, Intrexx Xtreme. The Adapter will simplify the development of web applications, web services and process management for the Intrexx Xtreme Lotus Notes community.
Commenting on the launch, Alexander Marsch, managing director of United Planet Limited, said: “Many businesses have standardised on Lotus Notes for the administration of their extensive data records. Our Lotus Notes Business Adapter will enable these companies to use Domino Server data records in their enterprise portals and integrate existing Lotus Notes data into new or production systems more easily. The creation of a portal interface for Lotus Notes will provide a central access point for important information across the business and increase usability for end users across the board.”
The development of Lotus Notes databases in the web browser will dramatically improve user friendliness. A smart web interface can be created for all employees, making it much easier to operate Notes data and applications therefore eliminating the need for a Lotus client for users. The Intrexx User Manager will enable companies to set clear read and write rules for each employee, and will also facilitate secure external access by suppliers, customers and partners to individual data.
United Planet has been able to provide this level of access by making use of the Java API within Lotus Notes which allows the Business Adapter both read and write access to Lotus Notes data. All operations of the Business Adapter are possible without any major modifications to the existing Domino Server system.
The benefit of this approach is that existing mail directories and other user-related data, such as e-mail and calendars, can be readily imported into the portal. Lotus Notes data can immediately be used for process management, or with the help of web services, quickly and easily prepared for further software solutions and external partners.
Intrexx Xtreme also makes it easier to develop web applications. Lotus Notes data can be transferred using the Business Adapter to a Java-based system, which does not require the Lotus programming language to be used. Developers can use Intrexx Xtreme’s graphical user interface to simplify the entire process, using the drag and drop menu to create ever more complex applications and structures within a short amount of time.
