The new University of Edinburgh website,
http://www.ed.ac.uk, is now live on the Polopoly 9 platform. The University has been working with Polopoly for several years and have previously built smaller sites for several units in the institution using Polopoly 8.
This new site represents the culmination of a two year project to develop and embed Polopoly v. 9, creating a content management system which is scalable and resilient taking the University forward to an exciting new capability in web publishing.
The new website development project brings more than just new technology. It represents a new approach to University web publishing. The new web solution now provides the University with an editorial framework to facilitate online editorial work and collaboration, and demonstrates the beginnings of a much more consistent and clearly branded experience for the end user.
The University of Edinburgh, established in 1583, has an international reputation for excellence and very strong research traditions. It has grown to become the largest University in Scotland (based upon student numbers), with a significant international community and multi campus sites within the city of Edinburgh and beyond. The site will continue to grow, with more and more site editors coming on stream over the next two years.
The Polopoly-powered website was built by the University's in-house development team, ably supported by Polopoly consultants. It operates in a Solaris, Oracle and Resin environment.
The University of Edinburgh is Scotland's leading research institution with 25,000 students studying in 21 different schools. These are grouped into three different university colleges.
