Windows Live Hotmail Update Just wanted to give you an update on a few things.
1. Safari Users - We know there's an issue with a continuous loop
that then ends with a "sorry, we can't sign you in at this time." I've
escalated this to a team who work specifically on Safari/Firefox issues
and hope to have a resolution this week. As I said on the
safari-specific update, we may need some additional information, but
several of you have already generously offered to help out if we need
logs/traces.
2. Lost Data/Inactivity - I'm having a team run reports for each
account where you've reported lost message/account re-activation but
are sure you log in more frequently than every 30 days. I have to be
honest and say that the first passes of data have not returned an
account yet which was improperly closed/data removed. And the
underlying fact is that, if the data has been removed from your
account, it was almost certainly then purged from our servers. If
you're continuing to use Windows Live Hotmail, the account inactivity
window is now 120 days. If you provided me your account name and
requested we look at the activity logs and confirm that your account
was indeed closed for not logging in, I hope to confirm that in the
next few days individually.
3. Can't Upload Attachments. Based on our initial research, the
majority of attachment upload failures are because the attachments are
too large and the upload process simply times out with a very
ungracious error which doesn't tell you to chunk up the attachment,
send it through Messenger or try the SkyDrive beta (where you can
upload photos, videos, etc., then point people to that virtual drive
rather than moving attachments back and forth. We've made some product
fixes to give you more feedback about attachment size but, until that's
release, if you get an error uploading an attachment and the file is
more than 10 Mb, chunk it down or send it another way (or try SkyDrive
beta:
http://get.live.com/betas/skydrive_betas). Please note SkyDrive is in beta in selected markets right now. 4. Other
Issues. I am still going through your feedback and aggregating data and
assigning to folks to investigate. I appreciate your patience as I
continue to work through this.
