Wyse and NetSupport Deliver Optimized Client Virtualization and Management Infrastructure for Education
Perfect marriage of Wyse's classroom zero client provisioning and NetSupport’s classroom management software to deliver maximum engagement & learning for students, better control for teachers, lower cost for schools.
London – November 03, 2009 – Wyse, the global leader in thin computing and client virtualization, today announced an alliance with NetSupport for its NetSupport School software, the class leading software solution that provides teachers with the ability to instruct, monitor and interact with their students.
By integrating NetSupport School, Wyse’s desktop provisioning software and energy efficient zero clients, educational institutions are able to deploy more effective Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) infrastructures for learning and teaching. Wyse and NetSupport will work together to deliver the most optimized ICT environment for primary and secondary schools, as well as universities and colleges.
Wyse thin computing software and devices are in use today by thousands of schools, colleges and universities worldwide. The company’s Wyse WSM™ provisioning software delivers a computer infrastructure that provides a reliable experience to teachers, an engaging experience for students, while still offering the same functionality as traditional PCs. From an ICT support point of view, Wyse WSM provides classroom computers that are automatically updated and maintained centrally and supports all of the latest curriculum software including multimedia applications and peripherals such as whiteboards, webcams and projectors.
When combined with Wyse desktop or mobile zero client devices, education institutions can create a more efficient learning environment and not just in terms of teaching, but also in regards to energy consumption and noise levels. With no moving parts, zero clients are silent in operation and with a typical energy consumption of 7-15 watts, they use as little as 10% of the energy consumed by a regular PC. The lower energy use also results in lower heat emissions keeping classrooms cooler.
NetSupport School classroom management software helps teachers keep students on task and focused on the applications and content relevant to the area they are studying. Teachers and Technicians have access to dedicated consoles that allows them to monitor students’ computers or terminals and both deliver classroom instruction and control student activity. Through the software teachers can deliver rich multimedia presentations, show their screen to all students, control Internet, application and printer usage as well as deliver instant surveys and full interactive testing. The latest version of NetSupport School also provides full Audio Monitoring and Language lab functionality as well as new electronic journals for each student, providing a full record of all activity undertaken during the class.
“By combining Wyse WSM and NetSupport School the two companies will be able to offer a much more robust and complete solution to education institutions.” said Chris Lovesey, Marketing Manager at NetSupport. “As the leading classroom management solution NetSupport has over 8 million worldwide licences and has applications in all aspects of education, from primary right through to higher education. By working with Wyse we can run our software seamlessly on a highly reliable, fully functional, cost and energy efficient infrastructure and deliver an innovative solution for the education market.”
David Angwin, Director of Marketing, EMEA for Wyse said, “When it comes to ICT in education teachers and lecturers just want it to work. The use of ICT in education can be a great asset but we must remember that it is there to support the curriculum and help deliver better learning outcomes. It only takes one computer to stop working to disrupt the whole lesson. Wyse WSM and zero clients can offer the reliability needed from a hardware and infrastructure point of view and NetSupport complements this well with their classroom management offering. Even when everything works, you still need to make sure people are doing what they are supposed to and this is especially true in an education environment.”
