How to clean a computer from a virus. A computer virus is a software program that is designed to interfere with computer operation. It records,corrupts and deletes data. It can spread itself to other computers and throughout the internet. If your computer is running very slow it could be a virus.

To get rid of a current virus you can run a free utility called stinger from "http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/" created by mcafee. Go to the site and download the file. It would be best to download it on a floppy disk that way you will always have it. Once the file is downloaded open it and let it clean the computer. This utility will not protect your computer from a virus it will just clean it.

If windows will not load up at all disconnect your infected computer from any connected network and try to start in safe mode(restart then after the post diagnostics memory count hold down the F8 key and choose safe mode).

If it loads up in safe mode go to control panel ,add/remove programs and uninstall any unwanted programs. Next right click on start and go to explore. Go to program files and delete any files that contain unwanted programs or any programs that have been downloaded right before the problem started.

Then try to back up all important files on a floppy disk or cd. Go to your favorites file and copy all your favories on to a floppy disk. Install the windows cd and choose to delete windows and install a fresh copy.
