THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / What $ells on EBay For What - Book Review
on: July 26, 2007, 12:10:45 PM
You look at the salesletter and the price tag ($8.95 USD) for the e-book What $ells on eBay For What, and they look pretty unpretentious. In fact, I really wasn't expecting a whiz bang job for a mere $8.95. (What can I say... I'm one of those people who believes a higher price equals better quality.) Well as the old saying goes, "never judge a book by its cover." Or in this case, never judge an e-book by its low price. When I opened the PDF I was pleasantly surprised to find a 230-page e-book. I'm NOT talking about a 230-page book with 18 point font, lots of white space, and loads of graphics. I mean solid, ceiling to floor content. The first few chapters give you ideas on what to sell on eBay, where to find merchandise (interesting ideas here), what sells (interesting ideas here too), and how to create a listing. Much of this is beginner to intermediate auction seller stuff. Chapter 5 gives you an analysis of products that sell very well and moderately well in categories like: antiques, books, magazines, catalogues, software, price guides, clothing, music, toys, art/paintings, electronics, collectibles/coca cola, coins, and Disneyana. A lot of detailed research went into compiling these sections. And the information provides a wonderful guide as to what you should (and shouldn't) be looking for when searching for merchandise to sell. I know that I scribbled a few notes to carry around with me 'just in case' I'm out and opportunity falls into my lap. Chapter 9 - Top Sellers and Searches - is interesting, but out-of-date. (This book was last updated Feb. 2005.) No biggie. You can search for the information contained here on eBay's Pulse. You'll find some gems in the Bonus section. "Big Lots vs. Small Lots" and "New Collectibles" definitely gave me some food for thought. The Appendix has a list of dozens of commonly used eBay listing abbreviations. For example, CART - Cartridge (video game), FE - First Edition (books), GD - Good Condition. This will come in handy when creating your auction titles, where you have a limited amount of space to describe your product. Appendix II has a list of popular clothing brand names. If you're not 'up' on the latest street/pret-a-porter wear, carry this one around when you're shopping to sell. The only thing I didn't like about this e-book is that there are no page numbers in the table of contents. So you have to scroll through pages and pages to find what you're looking for. This can be quite confusing at times when you're searching for specific information. Other than that it's a great steal, with tons of well-researched information. I recommend it for beginner to advanced eBay sellers. Alexis Dawes runs the Auction Seller Tool Review blog. Everyday you'll find a new review for e-books, software and resources especially for auction sellers. Check it out at:( http://www.auction-seller-tool-review.com).

THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / How to Survive Sudden Leadership Challenges - Covey Has Some Clues
on: July 26, 2007, 12:10:11 PM
I have decided to start with this text as simply far too many people have said to me I should - it clearly has an enormous following of people who found the message rang true for them. In the introduction to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Covey talks about how we perceive reality based on certain beliefs or paradigm. As an example, he tells the story of a ship in a fog, apparently on a collision course with another craft. The captain, having become quite agitated at the other crafts refusal to alter course, experienced a significant paradigm shift when it was realised that the other craft was a lighthouse. The captain then faced a situation in a new light(no pun intended). His reality and behaviour altered by the new understanding. The message is that often we forget that what we think is reality, is only what we see. Just ask any magician!! A strong thread through this first section is that people don't do things to you. They are acting on their reality in the same way as you are seeing motives behind their actions based on what you can see. When the feeling of being "done to" rises we too often look to blame something external. What Covey is saying, is that only by understanding the perceived reality of the do'er, can we find the common reality necessary to both appreciate the true middle ground. This is not easy. When I have been in the position where I was sure someone was doing something just to get back at me, I struggle to even consider their position in any unfiltered light. I have needed someone I trust to take me aside and say "Listen Steve, no matter what you think, this person is doing this because they truly believe it for the good of the group". This was something I would not even had heard from the person in question, and frankly was not that easy to hear from my then trusted coach. Covey has a great quote "What you are shouts so loudly in my ears I cannot her what you say" -how many times has that been the case? He speaks of an "inside-out" approach to problems, that means to start with ourselves and what?s happening on the inside. As an example this approach says that private victories precede public ones, that keeping promises to ourselves precedes keeping promises to others. "Character is a composite of our habits" "habits are the intersection of Knowledge, Skill and Desire." These statements under pin the rest of the book. Covey talks about three levels of maturity. Dependence where everything is about "you"(someone else) that we are dependent upon. Independence, where its all about I - I am responsible and I can do it. This is where I feel many leaders stop. With the confidence of only themselves they try to drive others to their dreams. Interdependence is where its all about we. Being a natural introvert, this is something I have to learn. I am far more comfortable doing my stuff on my own. The thought of having to rely on others for part of my dreams does not feel natural. That may be a bit harsh, in fact there are a few individuals I have worked with where is has not been an issue of leadership, more of partnership. My issue is to expand these to a wider number of people. Covey talks about how interdependence can feel like dependence and therefore not a step forward. Often phrased as "doing their own thing" or being liberated people move back from potential interdependence to independence. The rest of the book is divided into three main parts. The first three chapters deal with taking people from dependence to independence. Now if you are like me, you think this is a step you have already taken. This maybe so, but these chapters are going to heighten our self awareness and cement us at or above the level of independence. Covey describes these as "Private Victories". Habits four to seven are the "Public Victories" that will move us from independence to interdependence, and the last habit is about continuous improvement. Covey then talks about efficiency as the necessary balance between return and investment. Or as he calls it Production and production Capacity (P/PC). An interesting quote here for me was "..always treat your employees as you would have them treat your best customers." He speaks of how you can employ people but the extra special part of the individual has to be won, passionate employees are there for more than the money, is the way I see it. This is where the interdependence and trusting those you work with all starts to come together. The final message of the introduction is: "No one can persuade another to change. Each of us guards a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside". For me this is a moment of commitment. I feel that I have a choice here and now. I can leave the gate closed and go on as before, or open it and dive into the rest of this text... "and see how deep the rabbit hole goes" as Morpheus said. Be brave, be famous. Cheers Steve Come with me as I discover the keys to surviving sudden leadership... http://2leadership.com

THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / Entrepreneurs Reach Record Income Levels Using New EBook on Adsense and Adword T
on: July 26, 2007, 12:09:35 PM
The "Rich Jerk" has created quite a stir on the Internet about his new ebook revealing secrets on how to use use Google Adwords and Adsense for big profits. He has recently sold a website on eBay for $390,000 that had a $900,000 annual return. It only took him nine months to reach that sky-rocketing figure. The Rich Jerk's real name is Kelly Summer. He often likes to refer to himself as "The Rich Jerk" for his attention grabbing and rude awakening marketing techniques. He has recently grabbed notoriety amongst some of the leading marketing experts such as Lance Groom, Jeff Mills, Dean Marino, Britt Phillips, and Karl Payne. Some people are saying that this revealing ebook has opened many doors for new and experienced marketers to make a lot of online money. The Rich Jerk has been able to earn over $13 million in the past six years with clickbank and Paypal using these exact same techniques he now teaches. Some critics say that The Rich Jerk has revealed too much information and that could shrink their pocket books by the competition of new marketing arrivals. This book is also not for the faint of heart. It contains some marketing tactics that are considered "grey hat" and "black hat." It also assumes readers are professional enough to understand investing in their business, in the form of advertising. Not every tactic is grey hat, black hat, or costs money though - there's a nice mix of many different tactics and approaches. The book is a "no fluff" and "no filler" type ebook that gets right to the point and shows you exactly how this guy is making tons of cash. The Rich Jerk is a legitimate online player. People are also stating that they just couldn't resist The Rich Jerk and what he had to say in his brand new ebook. Ninety-nine percent of the reviews online have stated, "don't worry at all about feeling like you got duped, because The Rich Jerk is not such a jerk after all and his book was downright Awesome"! Yes he does have an abrasive advertising style, but what the Jerk does do is make a lot of money, and is now willing to teach other people how to do the same. In the first chapter, entitled "Creating an Affiliate Website that Sells Like Crazy", he covers building affiliate websites to earn commissions from the sales of other people's products. He starts by listing 13 affiliate sites and ranks them as "must join", "maybe join", and "join if you are bored". Once you've selected a product to sell, he goes through six specific writing strategies to use on your affiliate site to hook the reader and get them to click through on your affiliate link. He then gives you a complete sample "sales letter" (it's more like an article) with all of his strategies at work. The third section in chapter one discusses offering rebates to your customers, but it's not just the same old "buy from me and I'll give you part of my affiliate fee back". The Rich Jerk delves into specific ways to do refunds that will increase your bottom line as opposed to simply offering a rebate. In the final section of chapter one, The Rich Jerk writes about setting up pay-per-lead sites, where you get paid $10 or so for each person who provides you with his or her information (which you then pass on to a company which pays you for the lead). This is a technique that has not been explored in-depth much by any of the mainstream Internet marketing channels. So why is "The Rich Jerk" much better than you?The answer to this question lies within his newly released ebook. For more information on "The Rich Jerk" Go To... http://www.RichLackey.comSee some of his actual sales below:http://www.magazinemillions.com/sales.html My name is Lance Groom and I am formally from the Hit TV Show "Making Money", also past board member for "Susan Powter" health fitness, and Infomercial guru. In 2001 I led one of the largest advertising campaigns in over 6,000 newspapers. This campaign resulted in over 25,000 sales all over the world creating "Classified Millions".

THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / FDA Approved Vagus Nerve Stimulation Therapy Can Improve The Quality of Your Lif
on: July 26, 2007, 12:08:56 PM
As of August 2005, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA) approved vagus nerve stimulation therapy as a treatment for depression. This therapy completely changed my life, when everything else had failed. It can improve the quality of your life as well. You need to educate yourself about this new medical breakthrough therapy. In my book: Out of the Black Hole: The Patient's Guide to Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Depression I include all of the information and benefits of this remarkable procedure. However, until vagus nerve stimulation(VNS) therapy for depression reaches universal coverage at the overall policy level, every reimbursement decision (Medicare, VA and private insurers) will be on a case-by-case basis. This is despite the fact the procedure and codes are identical to those of VNS Therapy for epilepsy (which does have universal coverage). Congress needs to pass the Paul Wellstone Mental Health Parity Act, named in honor of the late Senator Paul Wellstone. This act would eliminate the discriminatory insurance coverage of mental illness by third party payers. The Case Manager (which is provided free of charge by the manufacturer of the vagus nerve stimulator) that would be assigned to you, will help with the reimbursement process. In my book, Out of the Black Hole: The Patient's Guide to Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Depression, I list the procedural codes, sample letters( with the help of the Patient Advocate Foundation) as well as how to contact a Case Manager responsible for your geographic area. The Case Manager is your "go to" person who can provide additional patient education and referrals to psychiatrists and surgeons with experience and training in VNS located near you. You need to be your own best advocate by fully educating yourself. For more information visit http://www.VagusNerveStimulator.com There is a free newsletter to keep you up-to-date on the latest developments. Charles Donovan is the author of: Out of the Black Hole: The Patient's Guide to Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Depression and is founder of the VagusNerveStimulator.com Web site. He was implanted with the vagus nerve stimulator on April 4, 2001 in the investigational trial of vagus nerve stimulation and depression. He testified at the FDA Medical Devices Panel Meeting in Washington,D.C.

THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / Political Frugality - Review
on: July 26, 2007, 12:08:17 PM
It is hard to specify exactly what genre Larry Roth's new book can fall into. Political, frugal living, gay rights, taking care of the body and more are covered in Political Frugality ? Guerrilla Economics for the Demonized, Devalued and Disenfranchised. Larry was a high income-earner who gave it up to be a relaxed gardener; he exercises, eats right and lives frugally. This retired professional walks-the-walk, and raises several interesting points of view on society and communities. Discussions on how we dictate each other's belief system to one another without even realizing what we are doing were definitely thought provoking. Larry also brings to light the unrealistic discrimination that still slides in and out of our daily lives - and we find this normal. I found the author's ideas on social security just fantastic. When you think about it, where does our money go if we die early and are not married? For that matter, why should the spouse left behind be penalized by receiving only a portion of the mate's coverage? The true cost of climbing the social ladder is certainly a point well made by Larry and his thoughts on how consumerism is a vote with the wallet is enlightening. He talks about corporations that build items without replaceable parts or limited availability in order to force more consumer spending. According to Larry, it does not have to be like this. Although Political Frugality begins a little heavy and political for my tastes, just past these first few pages the real life stories will entertain and shock the reader. Larry's nightmare situation with the credit bureau is pretty shocking. This is not another "victim of fraud" story folks, but rather a bureaucratic goof taken to an extreme! Larry also makes some excellent arguments for the benefits of walking. It can be so much more than frugal and responsible transportation, exercise and meditation ? it can actually bond communities. How? I can't tell you here, you'll have to read the book to find out! So many beliefs and views on issues were similar to my own that I found myself thinking "Exactly!" repeatedly. Larry certainly brings attention to some very ironic and illogical social issues. Folks that read Political Frugality will learn new ideas on how to live in a more socially and fiscally responsible way. THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / Your Flight Questions Answered
on: July 26, 2007, 12:07:39 PM

Whether you are an experienced air traveler or a novice, John Cronin's book, "Your Flight Questions Answered," has a little bit of something for everyone. Written more as a reference guide, Cronin's book covers the many questions the flying public can have before, during, and after flight. Cronin divides his book into seven sections each containing several questions with detailed answers: flight cancellations and delays, baggage handling, weather, air traffic control, airports, airliners, and pilots. His questions are written in basic form, much like the questions a concerned passenger would ask who is unfamiliar with flying. For example, one question he covers: what are those tiny pieces of metal sticking straight up from the wing? He details his answer with the explanation that they are vortex generators, which create a vortex that prevents air from separating from the wing or other surface area on an aircraft. Cronin breaks down his explanations further with additional details and often includes a supporting picture or graph to visually stress the answer. For those who frequently take to the air, Cronin covers a number of the more difficult questions regarding aircraft instrumentation, airport markings, and cabin pressure; these are things that we probably know something about but may be unable to give a satisfactory answer to the inquiring passenger. Although the questions may seem more directed toward passengers flying on an airliner, business aircraft crew may find Cronin's book a handy reference to have available to their passengers as well. THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / Young, Fabulous and Broke? Suze Orman Has Debt Relief & Financial Freedom Advice
on: July 26, 2007, 12:07:07 PM
Are you a parent that has all the financial responsibility in the world on your shoulders and living paycheck to paycheck? Does it seem like there is no way out of this endless cycle of working just to pay your bills? Well, I certainly felt this way. I have been in consumer credit counseling, which was very helpful, but I still felt like a financial idiot. What was I supposed to do to get ahead? How was I going to ensure that my family was going to get the best they deserve which includes the finer things in life AND me? Well, I was sitting at home one day contemplating this and watching my local PBS station when an infomercial came on that was an real eye opener.
Enter Suze Orman, my financial guru! I had heard of Suze Orman before briefly and about her cable TV shows, but didn't really know what all the hype was about. I decided I would watch this infomercial and see if there was anything to the Suze Orman phenomenon. The infomercial was to raise money for PBS and promote Suze's Book "The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous and Broke". I got a chuckle out of the title, but thought to myself, "I'm young, fabulous and definitely broke" let me hear what this Suze Orman person has to say! Suze revealed some very interesting things to me such as:
# Your credit score can have an impact on your car insurance premiums!
# Your Fico Score is different from each of the credit bureaus and they are combined to make ONE Fico Score.
# Each credit bureau has their own credit report on you, and they don't always have all of the same information that the other ones do.
# If you have debts that are way overdue, they automatically fall off of your credit report in seven years.
# If you make a payment on those old debts at any time during the seven years, even if it is at the sixth year and eleventh month, you have started the seven year cycle all over again!
# As if you didn't know it already, bankruptcy is the WORST thing you can do to yourself and you should avoid it all costs. Suze recommends joining a consumer credit counseling agency if necessary.
# It's actually OK to live off of your credit cards while you are young for necessities so you can work the job of your dreams and put away the maximum amount of money in your 401 K Plan (only if they match).
# You should switch credit card balances to other credit cards as often as you need to to get the best interest rate.
# Despite what you may have heard, you should avoid interest only home mortgages at any cost, because if anything were to happen to you and you lost the home for any reason, you would have no equity and would have to start from scratch.
And much more!
In addition to the advice above, in Suze's "The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous and Broke" book, Suze gives you an access code so you can access more financial secrets at the Suze Orman Website.
All in all, I would recommend any of Suze Orman's books, they are a real lifesaver and will put you on the path to financial freedom!

THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / Atlantis Rises Book
on: July 26, 2007, 12:06:33 PM

Chapter one: Baby on the doorstep. It was one of those cold and dark winter nights of England when someone knocks on Dr. Peterson's door. He and his wife were deep asleep in their warm bed when he hears the knock. He wakes up and heads for the door. His wife wakes up as she felt him leave the bed. Kate: "What is it, Honey?" Daniel: "I heard someone knocking on the door; I'm going to see who it is." Kate: "It's half past midnight, I wonder who that can be." Daniel: "I'll go see." Daniel goes, opens the door and freezes in his tracks out of terror. His wife follows him a couple of minutes later and freezes in her tracks also. What they saw was a very bright light in front of their house this light moved upwards to the skies and launched swiftly with the speed of light to somewhere very far. Kate and Daniel were so stupefied and they stood there in front of their house gazing at the empty cold night sky until they were snapped back to reality by a little baby's cry. They looked down at the doorstep where they found a little baby wrapped in a blue blanket. Daniel picked him up and found some sort of plastic thing underneath the baby. He handed the baby to his wife and picked it up. It was a triangular shaped thing. He examined it carefully but found nothing. He, his wife, and the baby entered to the house and didn't say a word until half an hour later. Daniel: "Am I dreaming?" Kate: "I don't think so." Daniel: "I am so confused." Kate: "Me too." Daniel: "I wonder what that thing is." Kate: "Let me see it." Daniel: "Here." She puts the baby between them on the couch and Daniel stretched his hand to give her that thing. As soon as it got over the baby it floated in midair and shone brightly. Then, some sort of hologram appeared over it. In the hologram, a man and a woman who looked human were standing side by side. The woman spoke first and the man followed her later. Woman: "Hello. We are Atlanteans and we are from Atlantis. We had a long journey to come here. We need your help as much as you need ours." Man: "We hope that you could take care of our baby and you will be greatly rewarded later but tell no one about this or about us. This baby is a boy of light and he is in grave danger. We will explain later." Woman: "We will be back to take him when the time comes but we left you the liberty to give him an Earth name. Thank you in advance and take care of our son. End transmission." Daniel: "Wow." Kate: "We have no children yet. What a great time for a child." Daniel: "What shall we call him?" Kate: "I always liked the name Shawn. How about it?" Daniel: "Then Shawn it is." Daniel and Kate loved Shawn from the first look but they were still confused about what had happened that night. They decided not to tell Shawn anything about it until the right time. Since then, Daniel switched his interest from physics (he was a doctor in physics) to the study of UFOs, aliens, and the lost continent of Atlantis. As soon as Daniel started his new study, he stumbled across some information about the Bermuda triangle and it's relation with Atlantis since they both had a common geographical area. Also, he noticed that many UFO appearances have occurred over this area. He also found some information concerning a psychic called Edgar Cayce who talked about Atlantis and it's relation with the Bermuda triangle. He said that machines from Atlantis are causing the disappearances. Cayce blamed the destruction of Atlantis on some sort of death ray misused by the Atlanteans. Daniel also noticed that it's been a long time since any disappearances have occurred. if you wanna know what happens please buy the book here are the review and the links Atlantis Rises. After leaving him for sixteen years with foster parents and not letting him know his true identity, Shawn's real parents came back from Atlantis to take him to his true home. Throughout the story, many facts about Atlantis, the Bermuda triangle, UFOs, and other supernatural events will be enumerated and interconnected to make a wonderful and new theory explaining most of the paranormal phenomena that haunt our world. After many UFO battles and encounters, will Shawn leave his foster parents whom he loves so much and go explore a new and wonderful life in the legendary continent of Atlantis with his real parents? THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / The Rich Jerk - A Study in Anti-Marketing
on: July 26, 2007, 12:05:50 PM
I've always been fascinated by "anti-marketing", and how powerful its effect can be if done properly, so when I stumbled upon The Rich Jerk salesletter, I was immediately intrigued.
I'll admit, I'm one of those people who *never* reads a salesletter when I am considering buying something (I do read them when researching techniques, but that's another story), but from the moment I read The Rich Jerk's headline, I couldn't keep from reading the entire thing. Sure, in the back of my brain, I was telling myself that I was only reading it from a research perspective, and that I had no intention of actually purchasing the book. However, by the time I was halfway through the salesletter, I absolutely HAD to buy the ebook. Even if it was just the same rehashed old stuff, this guy deserved my money just for the education (and entertainment!) I got from his salesletter. My point here is that anti-marketing works very well if done right, and The Rich Jerk has done it extremely right
However, after reading the book, I'm pleasantly suprised! The Rich Jerk does indeed contain information that WILL assist you in making more money online?
His writing style is easy to follow, and perfectly understandable if you've been around the internet for a short time, but it is definately not for complete newbies (he does not, for example, take you step by step through registering a domain name or obtaining web hosting) - if you feel like you need any amount of hand-holding, this ebook is not for you.
In the first chaper, entitled "Creating an Affiliate Website that Sells Like Crazy", he covers building affiliate websites to earn commissions from the sales of other people's products. He starts by listing 13 affiliate sites and ranks them as "must join", "maybe join", and "join if [you are] bored". Once you've selected a product to sell, he goes through six specific writing strategies to use on your affiliate site to hook the reader and get them to click through on your affiliate link. He then gives you a complete sample "sales letter" (it's more like an article) with all of his strategies at work.
The third section in chaper one discusses offering rebates to your customers, but it's not just the same old "buy from me and I'll give you part of my affiliate fee back". Rich Jerk delves into specific ways to do refunds that will increase your bottom line as opposed to simply offering a rebate.
In the final section of chaper one, Rich Jerk writes about setting up pay-per-lead sites, where you get paid $10 or so for each person who provides you with his or her information (which you then pass on to a company which pays you for the lead.) I found this section to be a bit light on content, although there is enough there to get his point across. I think this is a technique that has not been explored in-depth by any of the mainstream internet marketing channels, and one that warrants further research.

Just follow The Rich Jerk link to read its astonishing sales copyThis is the first time I left an e-book with such a positive feeling and motivation to try some really new and effective marketing methods. This was such a good suprise that I decided to start this page to review and finally promote the book ii- Specific comments ont The Rich Jerk e-book Everyone reading those lines know that to develop an internet business you need: * An idea, a targeted and profitable niche, a business model * A performing and optimized website matching your goals and your business model * Targeted traffic * Relationship management Most of the "how-to make money online" either cover highly specific topic (google adwords for example), either cover all the topic broadly. Finally you end up these e-books (or audio tapes...)with a "So what???" in mindThe Rich Jerk method is about this "So what" as it tells the reader in a direct (autocratic) way what to do exactly to reach the sky.Of course if you're not a newbie to internet marketing you know (or just have ideas) some of the methods described in this e-book.The power and the value of this book comes from: * The concrete description of the most relevant methods : how it should be used to get the most of it * Useful tips and tricks for each of these methods and strategies...some are really worth 10 times the price of the book * The overall organisation of the book which proves to what extent The Rich Jerk masters the subject and has just picked up the most relevant tools with the best examples and applications The main drawbacks are: * The apparent "Big Head" of the Rich Jerk * The chapter concerning online ventures (small one indeed) a little bit off topic 4) Bottom line for The Rich Jerk "Making Money on the internet is Easy" * If you're a newbie to internet marketing, the reading of this book may be a bit hard...but it could be your first (raw) diamond * If you're "familiar" with the basics of internet marketing, then I'm sure that The Rich Jerk e-book will give a tremendous boost in your internet business You can read the complete review here : http://www.therichjerk-review.comJean-Philippe Schoeffel is a strategy and marketing consultant for 10 years. THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / Shattered Memories, Scattered Emotion - Review
on: July 26, 2007, 12:04:00 PM
Betty Woodrum released her first book of poetry entitled Shattered Memories, Scattered Emotions in on July 16, 2005. Her poetry is clean and simple and extremely honest. There is such a strong theme of the various forms of love that the word 'love' should almost be included in the title! It is apparent throughout Betty's poetry that friendships mean a great deal to her. The poem about online friends reveals how deeply the Internet is involved in our society's home-life. Betty warns to never let feelings go left unsaid to the important people in our lives and then welcomes readers on a journey through some tough times in her life. Readers will watch Betty let go of the past, witness her learning to live in the moment and feel her suffocation while she battled depression. Although Shattered Memories, Scattered Emotions could use a little editing, the poetry is well organized and is enjoyable to read. I certainly related to many of her poems, especially the one where she discusses the vulnerable feeling of being invisible and out of control. These are feelings I think many of us share ? and this is what makes Betty's book so special. She helps readers feel like they are not alone. THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / Review of Alicia Maldonado: A Mother Lost by Ardain Isma
on: July 26, 2007, 12:03:29 PM
This modern, aristocratic book portrays real-life events and how hard it is to deal with them, overcome them, or even struggle with them. Such is life, anywhere you put it, in the Caribbean or otherwise. Many people might have problems dealing with the material in this book. But it's involving, shocking, yet mellifluously elegant in its portrayal of a wealthy woman's humble and downtrodden existence. She cannot fathom the dark side of life, and in her pure yet misguided rebellion, she becomes a metaphoric symbol for humanity in general--not to mention impoverished, yet mysteriously happy. Professor Ardain Isma's excellent first novel painstakingly describes the fact-based life story of Alicia Maldonado, a young, aristrocratic white woman born in Cuba to a land-owning family, members of a seemingly elite class. Alicia arrives in Haiti with her parents and older brother Mario after fleeing Cuba, following the political turmoil within the Batista regime. But what she discovers there is that, in its own way, there is no such thing as fleeing. What her family left behind had to catch up with her slowly, surely, like a creeping plague of sophisticated reality that could only draw to a bad conclusion... She marries her next-door neighbor and best friend, Richard Laveaux, the son of a rich mulatto family, in spite of her mother's protests. The marriage is happy at first, and Alicia enjoys working for the family business and raising their two children. But the altogether too soon deaths of her father and her alcoholic husband raise questions in her mind about the sanity and purpose of her carefully kept upper-class existence. Was she really meant to be happy, or is something else, a mysterious fate much darker and deeper, in store for her? Unable to cope with her problems, Alicia leaves Haiti with her youngest child, Jean-Marie, and vanishes without a trace. None of her family or friends knows her exact whereabouts, and a prolonged and heated search for her begins. How does it ever end? How long must she suffer, and what happens? You must find out, by reading this gripping, poignant and sophisticatedly charming book--full of the flavor of the islands, the richness of the soil, and the death of all meaning. THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Books / The Bubblegum Babes Guide to Sixth Grade - Review
on: July 26, 2007, 12:02:57 PM
This is one book that I would have cherished as a little girl. The Bubblegum Babes' Guide to Sixth Grade is the first in a series designed for young people growing up in today's fast-paced and high-pressure world. Doreen Lewis wrote it so that each chapter can be read as a complete story on its own - perfect for pre-teens that like to read small sections at a time. An award winning author and mother of two, Doreen writes with clarity and energy and draws upon her life for inspiration in her work. Her own personality is revealed nicely in the Acknowledgement and About Author sections in the book. The main character, Kelly, takes the reader through adventures with her three best friends. They dub themselves the Bubblegum Babes after an evening of giggles and make-up. The four girls experience and discuss many things that aren't easy to talk about in everyday life. Excellent advice is interwoven into each tale from how to maintain friendships, the mysteries of menstruation and the complexity of discovering an interest in boys. Starting with their nervous beginnings in a new school year right through to the graduation dance, The Bubblegum Babes will have you wishing you were one of them. ISBN#: 0976919303 Author: Doreen Lewis Publisher: Helm Publishing Lillian Brummet - Book Reviewer - Co-author of the book Trash Talk, a guide for anyone concerned about his or her impact on the environment ? Author of Towards Understanding, a collection of poetry. ( http://www.sunshinecable.com/~drumit)
