So as my first real post, I thought Id get back to basics - definitions!
Its wise to fully understand what we do, and to keep in our conscious the core values.
So... SEO!?
SEO Search Engine Optimisation (or Optimization)
The opening Wiki blurb on SEO is:
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results.

I like this definition, and Ive highlighted the key words to further grasp SEO, so to dig deeper, lets elaborate:
optimization (optimisation):
"the simultaneous optimization of growth and profitability" – Thinking of SEO as a solution to a problem, "in an optimization problem we seek values of the variables that lead to an optimal value of the function that is to be optimized" – So in SEO, how to rank higher for example.
process:
SEO is a process, I would say its a process of processes - Its essentially ensuring content is processed correctly, so when search engines process search queries, you come out on top. Ironically thats quite hard to process: Five occurrences of the word process in different tenses, point kind of implodes.
improving:
We all like to improve ourselves, our lives, our business etc. Improvement takes work!
volume:
Bottom line, lets increase the volume of visitors, sales, money, profit, confidence etc. In a different sense, lets make some noise about our sites! Let there never be a max volume limit.
quality:
The famous paraphrase of “quality over quantity” rings here, after all you don't want some active shopper searcher on a quest to buy a snooker table stumbling across your cocktail recipes accidentally, or maybe you do? Sometimes theres always a hidden link (psychosocially). Lets put light on hidden links in a future post.
traffic:
not just inbound traffic, full traffic management systems need to be in place, as a simple metaphor think of your site as a town/city, you need to control inbound, outbound, site-wide traffic etc.
search engines:
Obviously the main shibang! The driving force!
natural:
Not artificial or imitation, neither supernatural nor magical – purely conforming with nature or the observable world (Google World?)
organic:
simple and healthful and close to nature – thinking of Search Engines as living organisms, in the SEO context organic listings are directly related to and derived from the natural environment in which Search Engines are made of – simply put, the natural results. Its all a cycle really.
algorithmic:
Lets not take away the mathematical process, as were in the computing binary world, SEO may seem gray, but the search engines churn out results based on rules. Don't forget that. Its not magic. its natural, organic cycles!
results:
The end result is well... results!
You search, you get results.
You optimise, you get better results!
